Agencies work to prepare rec areas for July Fourth
Federal agencies say nearly all of the recreation areas that were damaged by storms and floods in April and May will be open for the July Fourth weekend, thanks to weeks of repair efforts.
On the Ouachita National Forest, nearly all developed recreation areas are open. The noticeable exception is Charlton Recreation Area, a heavily used, historic site located off U.S. Highway 270 west of Hot Springs that features a swimming area formed by a native stone dam along spring-fed Walnut Creek.
The area, which had to be evacuated on April 25, remains closed and no opening date...
